NEWSTART To Perfect Health

People are becoming healthy conscious now-a-days. Why? For one, health care cost is already on an all time high! It is now very expensive to get a health insurance.

Allow me to share with you an acronym that was formulated by my former mentor - the late Dr. Wilbur Nelson. The acronym is NEWSTART.

N - stands for nutrition. Proper nutrition and diet should always be taken into consideration. Balanced diet should be taken into thought. Because of the fast pace of life especially in highly urbanized areas, people tend to eat in fast food chains only. As a result, there has been an increase in incidence of cardio vascular diseases. People have heart attacks or suffer from cerebrovascular diseases such as stroke.

E - stands for exercise. Exercising regularly helps burn out fats, eliminate body wastes, increase blood circulation to all our body organs, and also improve our skeletal muscles. Brisk walking is a good form of exercise. So is swimming. For busy people, the thread mill in gyms or in your home is also good.

However, before doing any kind of exercise, be sure to consult your physician whether it is advisable for you to do one particular form of exercise or not. People with fragile bones such as the elderly or those with arthritis may not be advisable to take on weight lifting exercises. Your doctor could recommend you a safe exercise plan for you.

W - stands for water. Drinking at least six glasses of water a day is advisable for everyone. Water hydrates our circulatory systems and flushes out waste products from our systems. Of course, drink clean potable water. If you go to places where you are not sure of the safety of water, drink commercial bottled water.

S - stands for sunshine or sunlight. Sunshine is the best source of vitamin D. Vitamin D is essential to our body and greatly strengthens our bones. Early morning sunlight is the best. Strong warning when sunbathing during high noon sunlight and over exposure to sunlight as there is a high incidence of skin cancer especially to white skinned people.

T - stands for temperance. Temperance refers to discipline in ourselves especially in the use of alcoholic beverages and smoking. Smoking is generally known to cause lung cancer and other respiratory diseases such as emphysema, bronchitis, and more. Alcoholism can cause death to our brain cells and disease to other organs of our bodies such as the liver, pancreas and spleen.

A - stands for air. Fresh air is very important to us. Therefore, let us all strive not to create pollution in our communities. Secondary smoke exhaled by a smoker is even a form of pollution. In the United States, if you car has black exhaust, you would be penalized.

R - stands for rest. Enough sleep is a necessity in the human body. Normally, an eight-hour sleep for adults is the best. Children need more hours of sleep. People who lack sleep may end up to be dizzy and lacks concentration.

T - stands for trust in God. A wholistic view of perfect health includes not just our physical health but also our spiritual health. We need to trust in our creator as He knows what is best for us.

NEWSTART is the best formula for a perfect health.
