Australian Telephone Marketing... and the DO NOT CONTACT LIST

Australian Telephone Marketing... and the DO NOT CONTACT LIST
The Annoying calls.... When will they end? And What is this NO-CALL LIST?
After receiving 5 phone calls, and 3 visits to the door last night I decided that it is time to do something about it.
I'm over receiving phone calls about "investment seminars". When told by an AUTOMATED MACHINE that I am being placed in a queue because "I am a valued client" has also lost me.
I'd rather get spammed, at least I can delete it!
I think i'm a pretty reasonable guy at most times and usually one Marketing phone call a week as I used to receive and one visit to the door every few weeks I could live with. Not that I ever bought anything of these guys except a Painting from an Artist.
So I decided to track down this illusive "Consumer Do Not Contact Opt Out Services" that is supposively provided by the "Australian Direct Marketing Association" (ADMA) to see if I could get myself off these lists.
I found ADMA's website and a link to the "DO NOT CALL LIST" which can be viewed by clicking here. WHOOOOOOHOOOOO you say!!
The ban covers 500-members of the Australian Direct Marketing Association including banks, insurance companies, publishers, catalogue and mail order companies, charities etc. etc. and should stop:
- mail
- telephone
- direct response television
- the Internet &
- mobile phones

No mention of door to door sales people unfortunately.
ADMA Also state that you should see a decrease in the amount of calls coming through very quickly.
The service does not include removal from lists of companies of which you are a current customer and does not cover the registration of business information.
So now hopefully after submitting my details the calls will slow down. I will keep you posted.
Here's my other tips for avoiding the TELEPHONE MARKETING CALLS:
- Hang up the phone if no one Answers your first hello within a second or two, those calls are most likely from Overseas
- Ask if you are a customer, if not hang up
- Turn on message bank between 6.00pm and 8.00pm, when most calls come through
- Change your number to a private number (Although for some reason some private numbers become public in marketing companies eyes)
- Complain! Telstra, State Government, Federal Government. Email is a great way
- If you want to have some fun, speak to them in a foreign language

And Here's my tips for avoiding the DOOR KNOCKERS:
- Peep hole
- Chain on Door
- Don't answer the door
- Smile and then close the door (that's polite)
- If you want to have some fun, try and sell something to them

Keep Safe,
Damian
